Pension Benefits
The rules governing how you earn pension benefits - and how those benefits are subsequently paid out - are varied and detailed. For example, if you return to Covered Employment after you have retired and begun to receive your pension benefit, you may be eligible for an additional benefit. If you become totally disabled before you retire, you may be able to collect benefits before the usual retirement age, provided that you are eligible. If you die after becoming vested, but before you retire from Covered Employment, your spouse (if you are married) or other beneficiary (if you are not married) may receive a Pre-retirement Death Benefit. Even if you do not become vested, you may be eligible for a Retirement Account Benefit if you worked in Covered Employment prior to 1968.
